Diary of A Preschool Teacher {Piancées}

Today I had the privilege of sitting in a sandbox on a sunny day with four 4-5 year old boys that I work with.

The conversation began as any boy conversation would - talking about how they each should be calling each other "underwear" - but then the conversation changed.

One of the boys mentioned that I am "Mr. Ben's boyfriend" to which I said, "Well, not really. I'm his fiancée."

All the boys then of course asked me what a fiancée was. "A fiancée is what you call someone that you are going to marry."

Another one of the boys then tells me very matter-of-factly, "Jessica is mine" (one of the girls in his class.)

"You're what?" I asked him.

"My fiancée" he says, again, very matter-of-factly.

"Oh, you're going to marry Jessica?"

"Yep!"

One of the other boys then pipes in, "She's my piancée too!"

"She's your piancée is she?"

"Yes she is."

The conversation then turned into how all these boys "wish they could kiss at school" & play "the kissing game."

I then told them that kissing was yucky & they weren't allowed to kiss girls even when they were married, to which they all just laughed at me, crazy Miss Dani. Shows how much I know. If it were up to these boys, they'd play kissing tag all. day. long.

Can't be too surprised I guess - not much changes between the ages of 4 & 24.
