Everyone keeps asking me what our theme is, but I don't really know how to answer that question. We don't really have a particular theme that we're going for; the best I can come up with would just have to be "Pinteresty-casual-country-backyard-wedding". That's a theme right?
So, I have made some mini-boards for ya'll to get a feel of what we're going for.
- Bridal Party -
We have ordered the girls' dresses already - PTL! We got them from David's Bridal & they are in the color 'meadow' which is like a vintage, green minty color. We haven't gotten too far with the groom & groomsmen attire yet - we spent all afternoon yesterday going to store after store looking for the right thing with very little luck. All we know is they will be wearing gray, possibly with gray vests, white shirts, with Ben in a tie & the groomsmen in bow ties. I also really love yellow so I would love to incorporate yellow in there somehow. Maybe in the flowers or the guys' ties.
- Hair & Makeup -
I am very undecided about my hair; I can't decide if I want to keep it short like I like it & wear it simply & curly like in #s 2, 6, & 10, or if I want to grow it out until the wedding & wear it back & up like in #s 7 & 11. I do know that I want pretty & elegant makeup for the day. Something more than my dad to day but not too heavy either, as it is a daytime summer wedding.
We are having the wedding in Ben's grandparents' backyard so we want to keep that homey, backyard feel throughout the day. We haven't decided yet how to style the backdrop for the ceremony but we love the cloth draping in #s 6, 9, 15, & 16. We also love the idea of walking in through some old doors into the ceremony area. And we definitely don't want to do the traditional "bride side" & "groom side" thing - we're keeping in cozy & casual.
- Reception Decor -
Again, it's a backyard wedding, so we're keeping it fun, casual, & as Ben puts it "Pinteresty". Lots of lights, pictures hanging everywhere, lace & burlap (of course), & maybe some candles here & there. We also love Mason jars, as does everyone else in the Pinterest world, old music sheets, & old books.
- Flowers -
I really would like my bouquet to be handmade out of non-traditional things like brooches, paper flowers, burlap flowers, etc. I really want to keep my bouquet & it's easier to do when you don't have to dry the flowers - I already have plenty of those anyway. That being said, I do plan on having the rest of the flowers for the girls & the reception decor to be real. I like the random, colorful look the arrangements in #s 2, 5 & 9. Again, I love yellow & wold like to incorporate that into the flowers. I LOVE dahlias, which is perfect since they bloom in the summer & early fall, so those definitely be making an appearance. And finally, the paper flowers made of book pages & music sheets is very us, as I love to read & Ben is a musician.
- Food & Drinks -
The dinner menu was a topic of much debate for us in the beginning & it took quite some time to find a compromise. We have finally settled on pasta salad, grilled chicken & steak, oven roasted veggies, & some fruit & fruit dip on the side. We also are collecting pint size Mason jars for drinking glasses. Speaking of drinks, we plan on a couple different types of tea & lemonade, a root beer keg (Ben has been dying to have one for over a year now), & tea & coffee for the guests as they leave that evening.
- Reception Entertainment -
We don't plan on having a boring wedding, so we would like to have something fun for the guests to do like these cute little I-spy games, mad-libs, & fun facts. Of course we want to have entertainment for the kids there as well, & maybe some cute photo-op moments for the guests.
- Guest Book -
Oh, the guest book. This might be one of the hardest decisions to make because I love every single one of these ideas! Pinterest just makes it too darn hard I tell ya! I love the family tree thing with the fingerprints as I think it is so personal & family-oriented; it also makes those who aren't actually family, feel like family. But, on the other hand, I love the idea of using a picture of Ben & I or a photo album of our engagement photos as a guest book as that will be something to look at & cherish for years to come. Again, there are just too many choices & we'll just have to wait till it gets a little closer to make that decision.
- Desserts -
Sweets & treats - our favorite! I like the idea of doing the traditional cake cutting, so we plan on having a smallish cake for us to cut & serve, but we won't worry about making sure it's big enough to feed everyone. We are going to have an assortment of bite-size treats like lemon squares, fruit tarts, cupcakes, candies, etc. And I just love that little sign!
In case you were wondering, I already have my dress so I didn't do a board for that one on purpose (: {My dress is perfect & beautiful & stunning, BTW. Can't wait to show it off to you all!}

You could do both the finger print and the photo. Why limit it to just one awesome thing? :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a good point Yvette! (:
