This summer I have the pleasure (& challenge) of working with the elementary aged kids at my daycare. It is definitely not easy, but I do like the challenge & change of pace. They are a complete 180 degree turn around from the 2-4 year olds.
They are not afraid to speak their mind, that is for sure. The little guys never complained about what toys or games or art I had out for that day. The older kids on the other hand, will tell me straight up if something is too boring or not exciting enough.
Trying to find & plan fun activities & games for these guys has been a little hard for me since I am so used to 2-4 year olds who are very easy to entertain with the most simple of tasks. Field trips have been a big thing - we go on one every week & I wanted to go places where they haven't been before.
This week we are going to a local park to do a scavenger hunt so I made up this list for the kids to check items off on as they go & I wanted to share that with you all. I tried to list things in ways that it could be used for all ages of kids. The younger ones could easily find the obvious ones like a pretty rock or something straight like a stick, where the older ones will most likely put more thought into finding items that are more on the vague side like something shiny or mossy.
Feel free to right click & save to use for your own kids or classes!
